With a trip to the past, this piece perfectly fits a movie flashback or old and dusty polaroid album. The original photo I took on a vacation in Honolulu of a closeup surfboard I found laying in the sand. Although the original image looks great, the transition to black and white gave it an entirely new feel. I adjusted each individual color on the black and white scale within photoshop to make the blemishes, scrapes, and sand stand out, emphasizing the weathering on the board. I then darkened the red section of the board and brightened the yellow to provide more powerful contrast in the lettering. I handwrote the place and date at the bottom left to give it a messy and old feel, reminiscent of family photo albums with the date of each photo written on the bottom corner. This photo ended up being less about visual pleasure, and more about a true gritty and familiar feel, so as to feel perfectly in place in a movie or tv show. In fact, I'm sure this can remind all of us of some old photo album our parents showed us at some point or another.

Revisions - after reviewing my work and getting peer feedback, I made the following revisions:

  • I was mostly satisfied with this project already, however I went back and lightened the seashell behind the i's in Hawaii, and then rewrote the i's.
